🎯 Range Qualification (Required)
This course includes a mandatory live-fire shooting test to demonstrate unassisted handgun proficiency. You must bring a firearm and 50 rounds of ammo.

Shooting Test Breakdown:
• 3 yards: 20 rounds
• 7 yards: 20 rounds
• 15 yards: 10 rounds

📌 This is a required Texas LTC qualification – not a beginner course.

​State Requirements to Obtain a License to Carry (LTC)

Education Requirements

To apply for a Texas LTC, you must complete the required classroom training. This can be done in one of two ways:
• Attend in-person instruction with a Texas Qualified LTC Instructor
OR
• Complete the classroom portion online through an Approved Online Course Provider

After successfully passing the classroom portion, you are required to complete 1–2 hours of range instruction and demonstrate handgun proficiency. This must be done with a Texas Qualified LTC Instructor.

🔎 Note: You are allowed to complete the range portion before finishing the online classroom section.
Shooting & Proficiency Test

The range instruction must include a hands-on demonstration of your ability to safely and proficiently handle and operate a handgun. You must meet the minimum standard of handgun operation required by the state.

Certification will not be issued unless you meet or exceed this proficiency level.

⚠️ Military Exemption: Active duty and honorably discharged military members may be exempt from the range instruction portion.

The overall proficiency exam includes two parts:
1. A written (or online) test covering laws, safety, and responsibilities
2. A live-fire test to demonstrate your safe handling and shooting proficiency

​Why should you get an LTC and not just carry under Constitutional/Permitless Carry?

What about Constitutional Carry? Well, here are some differences:
  • Legal Carry: Allows individuals 21 and older, who are legally allowed to possess a firearm, to carry a handgun without a permit, either concealed or openly, within Texas.
  • Limited Reciprocity: Constitutional Carry is only recognized within Texas; no reciprocity with other states.
  • Background Checks Required: Individuals still undergo background checks when purchasing firearms.
  • No Training Requirement: No mandatory training or education on firearm laws or safety is required.
  • Fewer Legal Protections: Constitutional Carry may not provide the same legal protections as LTC, especially in certain scenarios like carrying on private property or in sensitive locations.
